School Number 6

Today we had a fantastic day at School Number 6!  This is where both Anna Z (who was a La Crosse  exchange teacher) and my host Irina are teachers.

To start the day we had a great tour through the building.  It was so quiet that we were surprised to hear that the students were in their classes learning already!  We actually thought that the kids were not at school yet.  Between classes - then it was clear that the students were there!

Some of the parts of this school were beautifully decorated...some not so much.  But all in all it was a light and cheery place for children to learn!

One hallway, near the teacher's lounge and technology classes.
Main hallway with displays of the school.
Anna Z's classroom.  Very small, but very fun!
After the tour, I taught about La Crosse to Irina and Anna's 4th grade students.  I knew it was going to be fun when they applauded after I asked if they would like to see pictures of our school!  I taught them a few songs, and after Plan C to get the technology to work we were able to show a few pictures!

In Russia, the translation of "grade" is actually "form."  This class would be considered 4th Form.

Smiling for the camera!
The girl directly in front of me had the same name as I do!

We also got to observe a Russian literature class, and then a history class.

Then we had lunch in their cafeteria.

What a beautiful space!  Their gym is separate from their cafeteria, so they don't have to have big movable tables.

And then some shopping with Raisa.  A retired teacher here who is very active with the teacher exchange and spent 3 months in La Crosse!

See the coat and hat that Raisa is wearing?  I'd estimate 80% of the women here wear this style.  Especially the fur hats!

  1. Does the girl in front of you spell her name the same way too?

    1. I will definitely do so! I've heard so many stories about you two...especially how Roma first greeted Keachen!
